Seasons Book 3: The Resonance of Spring

by Druid

1.
She walked amongst the growing flowers in the old farm field, the two mystical books in her satchel were well hidden from sight. Ever since she found the first volume, she has been inexplicably bound to them, unable to leave them behind or neglect finding the remaining tomes. She was told of a wizard who lived in the town, she was to meet with him and learn of her new fate. The druids didn't seem to call her by her given name, Eloria, they kept calling her "The woman in the orange cloak". She didn't know it yet, but they were treating her as a druid-in-training like many before her. Her name was to be earned.
2.
She saw a man standing in the old cemetery on the edge of town, walking to a particular gravestone marked with an old symbol. The Wizard was visiting the grave of his late wife, as he always did during the spring, bringing fresh flowers to her grave. He knew of these books and was to help her in her duty. It had been raining gently since early in the morning, the mossy graves seemed more green and full of life than she has ever seen them before. She approached him, holding her satchel in her hands. He had heard of her in the town, he knew what she had with her. "There still remains two books," he told her." Both are in the Sacred Glade deep in the darkest parts of the forest." The path from the cemetery seemed to lead into the dense forest nearby, the pathway to the Sacred Glade. The path was dark and uncertain, but the treacherous walk was necessary.
3.
As she walked down the pathway she saw the mass of spider's webs in the trees. The darker it got in the forest, the more there were, ensnaring small rodents and birds. The spiders had infested the dark woods around the Sacred Glade, almost keeping visitors away intentionally. She would sometimes catch a glimpse of something skittering around a tree or see a spider perched in what looked like thin air. These spiders were keeping their eyes on her. Fortunately for her, they do not have a hankering for human flesh of any sort. The largest threat in the dark woods was lingering in secret, unseen by her careful eyes. A presence not felt for over 20 years in the area, these books seemed to be luring this dark entity near.
4.
Just as she thought she heard foul whispering behind her, she saw a clearing with golden light radiating from the sky. Old stone ruins sat in the middle of the clearing, mostly buried beneath soil and grass. She approached the ruins, looking around the area for the book she was told of. The head of a statue poked from the ground, the eyes almost under the earth, it looked as if two horns once came out of the helmet it wore upon its head. A calm warmth coated the area, the hidden darkness couldn't enter the area and follow her, leading to it leaving the area for the darkness it hid within. She climbed the tallest point of the ruins and saw a bundle of burlap, wrapped heavily in twine and leather. Upon opening the bundle, she saw a pair of books carefully wrapped in soft linens. One book was labeled with the number 3, bound in worn leather and held closed with a black leather strap, tied up carefully. The other book was marked with the number 4, two golden hinges ran up either side of the spine and both the front and back covers were carved from a green stained piece of carved wood, painstakingly crafted by a master artisan. There was a gold emblem of the sun on the fourth book, polished to a mirror finish. She quickly wrapped the two books and stuffed them carefully into her satchel with the others, she had found them all; the books of seasons.
5.
As she hurried back to the old wizard, the books together began to edit a field around her, protecting her from dark forces. The spiders in the dark woods scurried away in fear from her, leaving a very clear path to the cemetery. When she left the darkness of the deep woods behind, she smiled feeling the sunshine on her face and the gentle breeze in her hair; the clouds had cleared, the rain had ceased, and the sun was shining through the various openings in the sky.
6.
Returning to the grave adorned with wildflowers of all sorts, she saw the wizard sitting against a tree, smoking his pipe. He looked over at her, knowing she had the four books with her, he felt the resonance of energy come from them. He pulled himself up from his seat and looked at the satchel, he then looked at the dark pathway coming from the forest, he didn't say a word but she knew he was concerned about something hiding there. "Flax has told me about the dark in the forest, we must go to my tower." He looked at her and smiled slightly." You and the books will be safer there."
7.
He brought her to his tower, standing high in the Forest of Ages, letting her inside while still keeping an eye towards the direction of the dark woods. As he stepped into the tower, he closed the door tight behind him. "We haven't much time left, I'm afraid." He removed his hat and hung it on a hook by the door." I am uncertain if you felt the dark force following you in the woods, but you were being shadowed." He pointed at the satchel of books, he knew what it was after." I'm afraid I have to send you away somewhere you can be safe, at least for the time being." He exhaled. "What do you mean by sending me away?" She spoke softly, inside of what she had been brought into by these books. "There is a Celtic Shaman I trust, you will be safer with him and you will learn the old ways of the druids. You may not realize, but the temple has been training you for druidhood since you discovered the book of autumn." He led her to a stone archway, a portal of some kind. Runes were carved throughout meticulously and precisely for a desired effect." What is this you are showing me?" She gripped her bag tightly in both hands nervously. "It is a gateway to another time." He took hold of his staff and cast a flash of light at the arch. The once empty spot before her now looked like rippling water with an image of a place behind it, distorted by the light." You must trust me my dear, you will be safe there, and I shall retrieve you when the time comes." He tried his best to assure her, he could tell she was extremely hesitant to leave the world as she knew it behind, even for a short while. She knew she didn't have much of a choice, it was life or death for her, and she didn't even know it. The Necromancer was seeking his return, and the books held the key for his revival, he craved the breath of life once again.

about

The books were being collected, a magical connection grew as they were brought closer together. The druids were becoming concerned with this set of spellbooks, they had never seen them before, but Flax, the rabbit-headed druid, heard of old folklore about the books of Seasons Sorcerer.
Among the blooming flowers and crawling insects, there crept another force, one of darkness and death. It was seeking the books.
The woman in the orange cloak was in danger.
