Grave Wraith

by Druid

/
1.
The village north of the ancient graves was shrouded by an ominous cloud. Some people swore they could hear whispering voices in adjacent rooms with no one inside. A cold wind blew through the streets into the dark, moonless night. Something wicked lurked near. The Necromancer walks among the living, for the spirits are speaking in the houses of the holy.

The gravekeeper took note of the dark mist creeping from the forest near the town. Something like this only happened in the spring, and it was well into winter. Could it be foul magics or an omen? He was superstitious enough to not find out as he retired to his shack at the edge of the grave site. Every so often he could have sworn that someone was watching him from behind a tombstone or a step of his would sound out of place. The feeling of eyes on his back caused him to speed up his pace. Then he heard it: muffled wailing from below his feet as well as sounds of tapping against hardwood. When he fled to his shack, a dark figure walked along the path, not a footstep to be heard. Dead silent, but enough of a presence to wake the dead.

At the center of the grave site stood an old church, a sanctuary for the first settlers of the lands many centuries ago. The church stood atop a great mausoleum, a catacomb of the departed and deceased. The door was pushed open, the creaking eachoing through the empty chapel. It had been empty for decades, the halls silent, but this night brought a visitor, the Necromancer. The haunting whispers of warriors, thieves, holy men, and the remaining dead began to materialize from the dark corners of this once sacred place. The dark being had a desire to enter the catacombs, many bodies and remains were there for him to cast his black magics upon. Even a being of great power such as he.

Grave Wraith 06:14
The great Grave Wraith haunted the deep catacombs beneath the olden church. A great curse placed upon this land caused a great apparation to take up residence within the darkness. The Necromancer had great plans for this potential servant. His grim incantations would prove to enslave the Grave Wraith and awaken the rest of the dead in the catacombs. The wraith would carry a sword with green inscriptions upon the blade, the Necromancer's Sword. This would allow him to command the dead, while still being in the service of the dark Necromancer as well. The Gravel Wraith would serve no one willingly, and being commanded by this intruder enraged the spirit. He secretly vowed revenge whilst being commanded like a common dog or an underling in an army.

Emerging from the church, the Necromancer began his departure from the grave site. His servant was to raise the dead and gather an army of ghouls, spirits, skeletons, and zombies to do his evil bidding. The grave site was shrouded in darkness as the Necromancer walked out of the gates at the east end, opposite to where he had arrived. He made his way back towards the forest, a cover from the sun's light as morning was soon approaching. The plan was in motion and there seemed to be a dark cloud rising in the east, the Necromancer was preparing for war against the living and holy.
